Sourwood honey is one of Appalachia's most prized delicacies. The sourwood tree blooms in the early summer with fronds of small white lily-of-the-valley-esque flowers. It drips with nectar, and bees go crazy for it when the blossoms finally appear after the late spring dearth. Sourwood trees only grow here in the Southern Appalachians and bloom most strongly at certain elevations. Beekeepers will move dozens of hives to sourwood groves to take advantage of the lucrative amounts of honey that can be made from the nectar!

Our sourwood honey is currently sourced from Mooresville, NC. It is raw (unpasteurized) and not heavily filtered.

Tasting notes : Sourwood honey is certainly not sour. While it has been compared to acacia honey, sourwood is in a class of its own. The sourwood we have available is sweet, syrupy, delicate, and has bakery and confectionary notes. In the bottle it even smells like butterscotch!
